Rome, after the war. Here come two people,a painter and a writer. They were in the Hereford camp, Texas, prisoners as fascist soldiers. They spent there a lot of time. On their return to Italy, in Rome, one become the most important painter of his generation, the other a well known writer who won two most important italian literature prizes in the same year with a novel whose title was Il male oscuro (1963). Rome after the war was a city full of hopes and energy. Architects, painters and writers used to live together sharing most of their experiences.
